Sheffield, named after the River Sheaf which runs through the city, is a large city in South Yorkshire in the UK. This West Riding city was previously a large industrial city but absorbed it's southern suburbs from Derbyshire and expanded it's economy. At 578,000 it's the eighth biggest cities in what is know as the "Core Cities Group" and the third largest by population of English districts, with nearly 1.6 million people living in the greater urban metropolitan area.
